The 2028 Volvo XC90 introduces a notable advancement in its plug-in hybrid offering, delivering an impressive increase in its electric-only driving capability. Central to this improvement is a more powerful electric motor and a substantially larger battery, which collectively boost the XC90 PHEV's electric range from an estimated 32 miles to an impressive 73 miles. Despite the overall power output remaining at 455 horsepower, the upgraded electric component ensures a more efficient utilization of the vehicle's electric-only mode. This significant enhancement, along with an improved MPGe rating from 58 to 61, is designed to reduce fuel consumption and operating costs for owners. Alongside the plug-in hybrid, the XC90 will continue to offer conventional gasoline-powered B5 and B6 variants, maintaining its elegant exterior and luxurious, seven-seat interior configuration.
