Amazon MGM Studios is set to transform ND Stevenson's fantasy novel, 'Scarlet Morning', into a live-action movie. Kate Herron, known for her work on 'Loki', will take the helm as director and co-writer, partnering with Kari Granlund on the screenplay. This venture represents the first feature film project for Herron's production banner, A Bag of Rats, co-founded with Aubrey Davis.

The narrative of 'Scarlet Morning' follows two orphaned children who, after years of anticipation for their parents' return, embark on a grand adventure with a group of pirates. Their mission is to safeguard the mystical land known as Dickerson's Sea. This novel, a middle-grade illustrated work, was released last year by HarperCollins' imprint, Quill Tree Books. Stevenson is a celebrated author, recognized for the best-selling graphic novel 'Nimona', which garnered an Oscar nomination for its Netflix adaptation, and as the creator of the 'She-Ra and the Princesses of Power' reboot and 'Lumberjanes' comic series. Joining Herron in the production team are Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment and Darlene Caamaño Loquet of Oh My Darlin' Entertainment, alongside Aubrey Davis. Kari Granlund and Jakob Pollack of Vertigo Entertainment will serve as executive producers.

The forthcoming adaptation of 'Scarlet Morning' underscores the creative synergy between established literary talent and visionary filmmakers. This collaboration promises to deliver a compelling cinematic experience that celebrates adventure, resilience, and the power of imagination. The film's development reflects a broader industry trend of bringing beloved literary works to new audiences through diverse and innovative storytelling approaches.

This scenario raises questions about the interplay of popularity and critical acclaim in Oscar nominations, potentially leading to a wider Academy response if the film is overlooked.
