"The Unicorn That Said No," an upcoming animated feature film, has successfully secured multiple international distribution agreements prior to its official market premiere at the American Film Market (AFM) in Los Angeles. The Playmaker Munich, the film's sales agency, has been instrumental in finalizing these deals, paving the way for the movie to reach a broad global audience. This development highlights significant interest in the adaptation of the renowned children's book, promising a wide release across various regions.

The animated production, derived from the popular German children's book "Das Neinhorn" by authors Marc-Uwe Kling and Astrid Henn, has already garnered considerable attention. The original book, celebrated for its unique narrative and charm, has been translated into over 25 languages, indicating its widespread appeal. This strong literary foundation provides a promising start for its cinematic counterpart, which aims to capture the same spirit and engage viewers of all ages.

Key distribution agreements have been established with several companies across diverse territories. Unlimited Media has acquired the rights for the Baltic states, while WWE Rights will distribute the film in Benelux. KMBO is set to release the movie in France, and Grand Entertainment for Motion Pictures will handle its distribution in the Middle East. Other notable agreements include M2 Films for Poland, Idea Film for Romania, Another World Entertainment for Scandinavia, Pack Magic for Spain, and Orjinlab for Turkey. This extensive network of distributors underscores the film's international potential and the anticipation surrounding its release.

In its native Germany, the film's distribution will be managed by Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany, with a scheduled theatrical release on January 1, 2027. The narrative of "The Unicorn That Said No" follows a perpetually discontented unicorn who departs from the excessively cheerful world of its unicorn family in search of a place called Nowhere. Along its journey, this "sweet, grumpy unicorn" encounters a diverse group of new companions. Together, they embark on an unexpected adventure to rescue a king's daughter from a towering fortress, a quest that ultimately enables the unicorn and its new gang to return home.

The film boasts a collaborative directorial effort by Marc-Uwe Kling, Johannes Weiland, known for his work on "The Gruffalo's Child," and Studio Soi. Kling also contributed to the screenplay alongside Marcus Sauermann. Furthermore, Marc-Uwe Kling lends his voice talents to the titular unicorn. The German voice cast is enriched by the inclusion of celebrated actors such as Nora Tschirner, Torsten Sträter, and Karoline Herfurth, bringing their distinct voices to the film's characters. This blend of directorial vision, compelling storytelling, and talented voice acting is expected to create a memorable cinematic experience.

"The Unicorn That Said No" is a production of X Filme Creative Pool, recognized for acclaimed films like "Run Lola Run" and "Goodbye, Lenin!," and Studio Soi, known for "The Gruffalo" and "The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball." Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany serves as a co-producer in this venture. The production team includes Uwe Schott, Nicole Kellerhals, and Carsten Bunte as producers, with Steffen Schier, Margret Mackuth, and Julia Hayungs as co-producers. The film's musical score is composed by Felix Raffel, and the main theme song is performed by Dota Kehr, adding another layer of artistic talent to the project. Financial backing for the movie comes from several esteemed organizations, including MFG, MDM, BKM, FFA, and Kuratorium Junger Deutscher Film, demonstrating significant institutional support.

The market premiere for "The Unicorn That Said No" is scheduled for November 11 at 11 a.m. at AMC Century City in Los Angeles, an event eagerly awaited by industry professionals and potential distributors. During the AFM, The Playmaker Munich team will be stationed at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, facilitating further discussions and deals. Sylvia Edelmann, head of sales at The Playmaker, expressed her enthusiasm, noting the impressive number of territories that have already committed to the film even before its initial screening. She highlighted the global popularity of the source material, expressing confidence that the animated adaptation will resonate with an even wider audience at AFM and beyond.

The film's journey from a celebrated book to an internationally distributed animated feature underscores the universal appeal of its themes and characters. The comprehensive distribution strategy, combined with a strong creative team and solid financial backing, positions "The Unicorn That Said No" for significant success in the global animation market. Its market premiere at AFM marks a crucial step in bringing this enchanting story to screens worldwide, enchanting audiences with its unique blend of charm and humor.
