Ariel, the renowned British performance car manufacturer, has announced a new distribution model for its extreme Atom and Nomad vehicles in the United States. Previously, US enthusiasts acquired these high-performance machines through a network of licensed local tuners who would build the cars from rolling chassis. However, this arrangement has now concluded, as Ariel will directly ship its UK-built vehicles to American buyers through a singular, exclusive partner: Forman Motorworks of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Forman Motorworks is set to manage all aspects of sales, spare parts, and servicing for the complete Ariel lineup, which includes the Atom 4, Atom 4R, Atom 4RR, and the off-road capable Nomad 2. This strategic change promises US customers enhanced access to Ariel's most recent engineering advancements, specifications, and a comprehensive range of factory-installed options. All chassis destined for the American market will now originate directly from Ariel's factory in the United Kingdom, mirroring the production process for European customers. Demonstrator models are currently under construction in England, with initial customer deliveries anticipated for the summer following the first quarter of 2027.

The Ariel Atom 4, a standout track-focused vehicle, boasts up to 350 horsepower and a lightweight design weighing less than 1,323 pounds. This impressive power-to-weight ratio has cultivated a dedicated following since its inception in 2000. Elevating the performance benchmark, the Atom 4RR serves as Ariel's flagship model, featuring a staggering 525 horsepower and a bronze-welded chassis for superior rigidity, all beneath carbon fiber bodywork. Positioned between these two extremes, the Atom 4R offers a formidable 400 horsepower, catering to those seeking a balance between the base model's performance and the RR's intensive track-oriented hardware. Diverging from the road-centric Atom series, the Ariel Nomad 2 is engineered for adventurous off-road excursions, delivering up to 305 horsepower and weighing less than 1,653 pounds, complemented by adjustable Öhlins suspension. This development aligns with a broader trend of niche British automotive brands expanding their presence in the American market, as evidenced by Morgan's re-entry with models like the Super 3, Plus Four, and the newly homologated Supersport since 2023.

The pricing structure for these high-performance machines reflects their unique sales model. The listed prices cover the rolling chassis only, with the engine and transmission purchased and installed separately. The Atom 4, for instance, begins at $91,500, inclusive of a $5,500 destination fee. The more potent Atom 4R starts at $130,800, while the versatile Nomad 2 carries a starting price of $97,500. Forman Motorworks estimates that the engine installation process typically adds an additional $25,000 to these figures. Therefore, a complete Atom 4, commonly equipped with a Honda Civic Type R engine, would cost approximately $117,000. Prospective buyers should account for this additional cost upfront to avoid surprises in the final invoice.

This method of selling rolling chassis, allowing buyers to customize their engine and transmission choices, is integral to Ariel's long-standing business model. While unconventional compared to traditional car dealerships, it is a core aspect of the Ariel experience and an appealing feature for its enthusiast base. Forman's initial demonstrator models, encompassing an Atom 4 and an Atom 4R, are currently under construction in the UK and are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2027, with customer deliveries slated for the subsequent summer.
