Disney initiated its premier creator gathering, 'Created in L.A.', held recently at the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. This two-day assembly convened more than 350 creators, innovators, and industry leaders from across the globe, including attendees from Argentina, Australia, England, the Netherlands, Canada, Georgia, and Morocco. The event's core mission was to foster idea exchange, cultivate relationships, and explore the evolving landscape of creator-driven narratives and their underlying business models. Jon Youshaei, a distinguished creator, entrepreneur, and media personality with leadership experience at YouTube and Instagram, spearheaded and hosted the event. He is renowned for his insightful interviews and behind-the-scenes discussions with prominent entertainers and creators.

Youshaei underscored the collective influence of the attendees, noting their impressive combined following of over 1.6 billion across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. He shared the genesis of the event, recalling his proposition to Disney to screen creator videos in a theatrical setting. This vision aimed to elevate the recognition of high-quality digital content, traditionally viewed on smaller screens, by presenting it with the grandeur of a red-carpet premiere. Disney's enthusiastic acceptance led to this innovative event, which also features engaging keynote speeches and discussions. Dana Walden, President and Chief Creative Officer of The Walt Disney Company, reflected on the El Capitan Theatre's storied past, which has hosted premieres for numerous iconic Disney films. She also acknowledged the pivotal role independent creators play within the broader entertainment landscape.

Walden highlighted the distinct advantage creators possess in their profound understanding and continuous engagement with their audience. She remarked on the immediacy of their content creation and feedback loop, a sharp contrast to the lengthy production cycles of traditional film and television. Expressing a mutual learning objective, Walden conveyed her hope that Disney could absorb insights from the creators' direct and dynamic approach to storytelling, while also offering the wealth of Disney's decades-long narrative expertise. She envisioned 'Created in L.A.' as the fertile ground for new, impactful collaborations, concluding with the aspiration, "Maybe we can tell some stories together." The event culminated with the introduction of the Golden State Award, designed to honor exceptional filmmakers or creators with significant subscriber bases. Lucas and Curtis Nicotra, known as Sticks, received the inaugural award for their film “The Technoblade Movie,” which premiered alongside Zach King’s “Cardboard Strikes Back.” King was honored with the second Golden State Award.

This pioneering event symbolizes a forward-thinking approach to entertainment, bridging the gap between established industry giants and the dynamic world of independent creators. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, it paves the way for innovative storytelling and a more inclusive future where diverse voices can contribute to the global narrative landscape. The initiative underscores the power of shared creativity and mutual learning in an ever-evolving digital age, promising a richer and more varied spectrum of entertainment for audiences worldwide.
