Mahershala Ali Reflects on the Canceled 'Blade' Reboot

Mahershala Ali, the distinguished two-time Oscar-winning actor, has echoed Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's sentiments regarding the unfulfilled "Blade" reboot. Ali confirmed in a recent GQ interview that he would not be taking the lead role in the Marvel production, a stark contrast to the initial announcement seven years prior at Comic-Con 2019, where he was confirmed as the star.

Ali further elaborated on his frustration, revealing he had dedicated a year to rigorous training for the film, only to see the project repeatedly delayed. He recounts how he sustained a knee injury during his intense preparation, which included extensive martial arts and sword work. The actor even uprooted his family to Atlanta in anticipation of filming, only for the movie to be continuously postponed and ultimately canceled. However, Ali expressed gratitude for the turn of events, as it led to his collaboration with director Bassam Tariq on "Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother," a project he believes benefited from their shared readiness and training initially intended for "Blade."
