Pokémon cards and toys are officially making a global comeback in McDonald's Happy Meals, sparking excitement among fans and collectors. This highly anticipated return, initially rumored weeks prior, was confirmed by McDonald's, promising a new wave of Pokémon-themed fun for children and adults alike.

Global Rollout of Pokémon Happy Meals

The new collaboration between McDonald's and Pokémon is set to launch in various regions worldwide, beginning in November 2026. This phased rollout will see the promotion reach different parts of the globe over several months, ensuring a broad distribution for Pokémon enthusiasts. The campaign will kick off in November 2026 in Australia, Canada, Fiji, France, New Zealand, Spain, and the United States. Following this, December 2026 will introduce the promotion to a large number of countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, Sweden, and many more across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. January 2027 will bring the Happy Meals to Latin American countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, as well as parts of Europe and Asia. Finally, the United Kingdom and Ireland are scheduled to receive the Pokémon Happy Meals in February 2027, completing the global rollout. This extensive schedule ensures that fans across continents will have the opportunity to participate in this special event.

Each specially designed Happy Meal box will feature popular Pokémon characters such as Pikachu, Umbreon, and Torchic. Inside, customers will find one of three distinct box-shaped collectible toys, adding an extra layer of excitement to the meal. Beyond the toys, every Happy Meal will also include two Pokémon cards from a collection of fifteen unique designs, with seven of these being special holographic cards. These cards often feature reprinted designs from previous sets, though occasionally, exclusive cards are introduced, which can significantly drive collector interest. The limited availability of these promotional items, typically lasting only while supplies last, has historically led to intense demand and sometimes, challenges such as product shortages and early termination of promotions, as seen in past campaigns in various markets.

Anticipating Demand and Past Challenges

The return of Pokémon cards to McDonald's Happy Meals is expected to generate considerable excitement, similar to previous collaborations. However, this anticipation also brings a familiar concern: the potential for scalping and excessive demand, which has historically disrupted these promotions. In past instances, particularly in the US, the high demand for exclusive Pokémon cards has led to situations where collectors and resellers would purchase Happy Meals in large quantities, often leaving young fans disappointed and leading to early sell-outs and limits on purchases.

Previous Pokémon promotions at McDonald's have faced significant challenges due to scalpers. Reports from past years indicate instances where McDonald's had to implement purchasing limits on Happy Meals and even end promotions prematurely to curb the widespread reselling of the collectible cards and toys. For example, a special Pikachu card included in a Japanese Happy Meal promotion last year caused a rapid sell-out across the country. While the specific cards for the upcoming US promotion have not been fully disclosed, there is hope that measures will be in place to ensure fair access for all fans, especially children, who are the primary audience for these Happy Meals. The brand aims for this revival to be a joyous occasion for Pokémon enthusiasts, mitigating the issues that have plagued similar events in the past and ensuring that the experience remains fun and accessible.
