Award-winning actress Rosamund Pike is slated to headline and co-produce a new body horror feature, 'Feed.' This project, helmed by director Leslye Headland, delves into contemporary anxieties surrounding social media, the pursuit of unearned celebrity, and the complex realities of modern parenting. The narrative centers on a mother's desperate measures to elevate her daughter's influencer status, leading to unforeseen and grotesque transformations. Inspired by recent genre successes, 'Feed' promises a thought-provoking exploration of its dark themes, poised to attract significant attention at the upcoming American Film Market.

Rosamund Pike Takes on Lead Role and Producer Duties in Upcoming Body Horror 'Feed'

In a significant announcement from the film industry, Rosamund Pike, known for her captivating performances, is confirmed to star in and produce 'Feed,' a new body horror film. The project is under the direction of Leslye Headland, recognized for her work on 'The Acolyte' and 'Russian Doll.' Scheduled to be presented to potential buyers at the American Film Market (AFM) next week by The Veterans, 'Feed' is already generating buzz.

Pike will portray Erin, a driven mother determined to propel her adolescent gymnast daughter into social media stardom. Her discovery of an unusual collagen supplement initially seems to aid her daughter's ascent to fame and success. However, this newfound celebrity is accompanied by a horrifying physical metamorphosis, turning her daughter into a monstrous entity. The screenplay, crafted by Daniella Isaacs, draws inspiration from Hanna Bergholm’s 2022 Finnish horror film, 'Hatching.'

Rosamund Pike's production company, Primitive Streak, will co-produce the film alongside Shelley Browning of Magnolia Entertainment, Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures, Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl representing ZQ Entertainment, and Sam Ritzenberg of Agile Films. ZQ Entertainment played a crucial role in funding the script's development. International sales for 'Feed' will be managed by The Veterans at the AFM, while CAA Media Finance will oversee the U.S. distribution rights. This project, with its high-concept narrative and body horror elements, aims to echo the commercial success of films like Coralie Fargeat’s 'The Substance' (2024), which achieved over $77 million globally.

From a journalist's perspective, this project seems particularly timely, tapping into the pervasive cultural anxiety surrounding social media, influencer culture, and parental pressures. Rosamund Pike's involvement as both lead actress and producer signals a strong commitment to the material, and her statement regarding the film's themes—the desire for fame without substance, and the "monstrosity of modern motherhood"—suggests a nuanced and critical look at these issues. The comparison to 'The Substance' indicates a clear ambition to deliver a successful and impactful genre film that resonates with contemporary fears. The film's potential to explore the "dangerous, febrile, intoxicating and monstrous" experience of being a girl in today's digital world, as articulated by Pike, promises a compelling and potentially unsettling cinematic experience.
