Andrzej Sapkowski, the esteemed creator behind The Witcher universe, has confirmed that another book is in development, much to the excitement of fans. This new entry will delve deeper into the lore of the monster-hunting world, with its completion targeted for late 2027. The announcement comes as fans eagerly await several other projects, including a remastered edition of The Witcher 3, an upcoming expansion titled Songs of the Past, and the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, which is projected to arrive around 2028. This new literary work promises to further enrich the narrative foundation from which the popular video games and television series draw their inspiration.

During a recent convention held in Poland, Sapkowski officially announced his progress on the next Witcher novel. He specified an ambitious timeline, aiming to conclude the writing process by the close of 2027. Consistent with his established narrative focus, the author indicated that the legendary protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, would once again be at the heart of the story. Sapkowski explicitly stated his disinclination to craft Witcher tales centered on other prominent figures within the saga, such as Yennefer, signaling a continued emphasis on Geralt's journey and experiences.

The latest addition to The Witcher book collection was The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens, released in 2025. This particular volume served as a prequel, exploring Geralt's initial significant exploits as a fledgling Witcher. Given that Geralt is depicted as middle-aged throughout the existing short story collections and novels, there remains a substantial expanse of his earlier life yet to be chronicled. Sapkowski himself has acknowledged this narrative potential, hinting at the vast possibilities for further exploration into Geralt's past. When questioned about the scope for additional prequels focusing on Geralt's formative years, Sapkowski enthusiastically remarked, "The sky is the limit." He also expressed an interest in composing more short stories, a format that marked the very beginning of The Witcher series before its evolution into full-length novels with Blood of Elves.

Crafting short stories, however, presents a distinct set of challenges for the author. Sapkowski articulated his perspective on this, stating, "It is not an easy thing to create a good short story. This is much more difficult than writing a novel." This insight sheds light on the meticulous effort he invests in each narrative piece, regardless of its length. Despite the inherent difficulties, his commitment to the craft remains unwavering as he strives to deliver another compelling installment.

The author's timeline suggests that Polish readers could potentially immerse themselves in the new Witcher book by late 2027 or early 2028, assuming the writing is completed as planned. International audiences, following the pattern observed with Crossroads of Ravens, might expect to access the translated version approximately a year later. This staggered release ensures that fans globally will eventually have the opportunity to continue their adventures with Geralt, experiencing the next chapter of his storied life as envisioned by his original creator.

The confirmation from Andrzej Sapkowski regarding his new Witcher book, slated for completion by the end of 2027, marks an exciting development for enthusiasts of the fantasy series. With Geralt confirmed as the central character and the potential for further exploration into his past, coupled with upcoming game releases, the Witcher universe continues to expand, offering both nostalgic returns and fresh narratives to its dedicated fanbase.
