This horror-comedy is the brainchild of director Quentin Lee, with a screenplay co-written by Lee and acclaimed author Grady Hendrix, known for his New York Times bestsellers like "My Best Friend's Exorcism." Phung is slated to portray Pancho Dang, a Canadian filmmaker whose career struggles take a terrifying turn amidst a zombie apocalypse instigated by a Filipino sorcerer, uncovering a curse linked to his documentary. The collaboration between Phung and Lee originated at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards, where Lee's co-produced special "Comedy Invasion" received top honors. Inspired by Phung's comedic prowess, Lee extended the invitation for him to lead and produce "Curse of Undead" as it evolved into a Canada-Philippines joint venture. Phung expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its bold and unprecedented approach to the zombie genre. The production, financially supported by Phung, Lee, and Cindy Au Yeung through British Columbia-based Margin Films Ltd., is scheduled to commence in winter 2027. Meanwhile, Lee is also preparing for the third season launch of his Asian American stand-up comedy series, "Comedy InvAsian," set for October 1 across various streaming platforms.
