A decade after its discontinuation, the Dubai International Film Festival is slated for a grand return, with its new iteration scheduled to commence on December 8, 2027. This significant development was publicly confirmed by local sources and officially announced by Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, during the Arab Media Summit.

Al Marri highlighted that the rejuvenated festival will prioritize showcasing Arab cinema, with a strategic goal of strengthening Dubai's influence as a prominent hub for film and television creation. She emphasized that this relaunch signifies a fresh phase in the festival's journey, which initially began in 2004 and rapidly evolved into the foremost cinematic gathering in the Middle East before its reported closure in 2018, purportedly due to a reallocation of government resources towards the Dubai Expo.

The details surrounding the leadership of this revitalized Dubai festival, alongside other organizational specifics, are yet to be disclosed. The festival's final installment in December 2017 featured an impressive lineup of 18 Arab films, including a significant number of world premieres, alongside regional debuts of acclaimed international productions such as "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."
