"Joy Will Prevail," a new biographical drama, offers an intimate look into the concluding chapter of legendary architect Louis I. Kahn's life. Directed by Max Korman, the film centers on Kahn's final three years, a period marked by the creation of his last residential masterpiece, the Korman House. This residence, commissioned by Steve Korman and later becoming the director's childhood home, serves as a poignant backdrop to exploring Kahn's professional legacy and personal complexities. The movie, featuring Griffin Dunne as Kahn and supported by Jennifer Beals and Alexis Bledel, recently celebrated its world premiere at the Philadelphia Film Festival and is now set for its international debut at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, the architect's birthplace.

Louis I. Kahn, an Estonian-born American architect based in Philadelphia, established his own studio in 1935, leaving an indelible mark on architectural history with monumental structures like Bangladesh's Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban, the Kimbell Art Museum in Texas, and the Salk Institute in California. "Joy Will Prevail" meticulously reconstructs the period leading up to his unexpected passing in 1974, highlighting the unique bond he forged with Steve Korman. This partnership not only resulted in an iconic piece of residential architecture but also allowed the film to delve into the architect's less public life, including his relationships and children with three different women, painting a holistic portrait of a man whose genius was as intricate as his personal world.

The film's journey back to Estonia for its international premiere holds significant symbolic weight. Kahn, who was born in Kuressaare on the Estonian island of Saaremaa, will have his final years and creative endeavors showcased in the country where his life's story began. This premiere at the 30th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, often referred to as PÖFF, will include the presence of lead actor Griffin Dunne and director Max Korman. Following the festival screening, the team plans a special showing in Kuressaare, further emphasizing the profound connection between Kahn's origins and his artistic narrative, all facilitated in collaboration with the Louis Kahn Estonia Foundation.

The ensemble cast further enriches the narrative. Griffin Dunne, known for his roles in films such as "The French Dispatch" and "After Hours," embodies Louis I. Kahn. Jennifer Beals, from "The L Word" and "Flashdance," and Alexis Bledel, recognizable from "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Gilmore Girls," bring additional star power to the production. Ben Rosenfield portrays Steve Korman, while Molly Ephraim is also part of the talented cast. The visual storytelling is crafted by cinematographer Joshua Echevarria, with editing by the accomplished Sarah Flack. The production team includes J. Andrew Greenblatt, Max Korman, Derek Dienner, and Alex Peace-Power as producers, with Anthony Faure, Christopher Rivera, and Grace Wagner serving as co-producers.

This cinematic venture not only commemorates Kahn's architectural contributions but also offers a tender reflection on the personal experiences that shaped his later years. The film's international debut in Estonia underscores the global resonance of Kahn's work and life, inviting audiences to revisit the profound impact of a master architect through a deeply personal lens.
